changes in Plain English Allergen Labelling (PEAL) requirements, especially if you’re a food importer. Starting from February 25, 2024, these regulatory updates necessitate mandatory allergen warning statements in a specific format, using bold font and straightforward language, as outlined in the revised Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (FSANZ). Products packaged before February 25, 2024, are still allowed to be sold for up to two years. Under PEAL, ingredient lists on food labels must now present the exact names in bold letters, with individual tree nuts, fish, crustacea, mollusca, and gluten-containing cereals declared separately. Compliance with PEAL is obligatory for all packaged foods.
