Flower power: How labels keep DAILYBlooms blossoming

The team behind Australia’s first same-day flower delivery service knows that getting roses out the door takes more than just good taste – it takes great logistics.

We spoke to DAILYBlooms Inventory & Events Coordinator Kate Manning about lilacs, logistics and how Dial A Label’s direct thermal labels help keep the nation’s blooms on track.

All the darling buds of Ray

DAILYBlooms CEO and founder Courtney Ray discovered her calling while completing a night course in floristry. She fell in love with flowers – hard.

Inspired, Courtney quit her job in finance, rented a small storage shed and began selling her floral arrangements online. Her background as a financial analyst shaped DAILYBlooms’ smart, online-only model – a move that allowed her to sidestep the high street rents and reduce waste from perishable stock that often trips up traditional florists.

Back in 2014, e-commerce was still considered risky business. With just $500 and a whole lot of determination, Courtney launched a one-woman operation – and within a few years, she proved any doubters wrong.

At first, the orders came mostly from supportive friends and family members, but by the end of the first month, Courtney sensed a shift. The business began to blossom.

More than a decade on, the Melbourne business employs a team of staff and delivers flowers, plants and gifts Australia-wide.

With same-day delivery now offered across major metro areas, staying organised is key.

Kate Manning, Inventory & Events Coordinator, explains how the team keeps things running smoothly – especially during peak periods like Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day.

“A typical day starts with our florists, who make all of our bouquets and vase arrangements based on our master spreadsheet,” she says. “Meanwhile, our customer service team works hard to reply to our customers’ questions and feedback.”

And the labels? They’re everywhere.

“We print all our orders on Dial A Label direct thermal labels, which we attach to our DAILYBlooms care tags, ready to be handed over to our wrap team,” Kate continues. “Once all orders are allocated accordingly, the drivers’ tags are passed on to our wrap team for tagging and final quality control checks.”

Why direct thermal works for DAILYBlooms

From pick slips and customer notes to address labels and stock transfers, labels are essential to every part of the process. Even extra flower care tips for certain “temperamental” blooms – looking at you, sunflowers and hydrangeas – are printed on Dial A Label’s 100x48mm direct thermal labels

Direct thermal labels don’t require ribbons or ink; instead, they react to heat to print information quickly and clearly. That speed and simplicity is exactly why direct thermal labels are a favourite for high-volume businesses like DAILYBlooms, where dispatch needs to be fast, accurate and fuss-free.

“Clear communication is essential across our team at every stage,” says Kate. “Dial A Label is an integral part of our workflow here at DAILYBlooms.”

Curious about what makes direct thermal labels ideal for e-commerce? Here’s a quick guide to the industries benefiting from them – and how they might work for you too.

Switching from a regular printer to a Zebra label printer early on was another game-changer.

“For our busiest days of the year, we’ll have multiple people printing labels all day to ensure all orders are ready to go,” says Kate. “Using direct thermal labels makes that process seamless.”

With reliable label printing in place, the team can focus on what’s important: delivering fresh flowers without the fuss.

Kate says DAILYBlooms sticks with Dial A Label for its competitive pricing, fast turnaround time and easy bulk ordering.

“We can order large quantities with no hassle at all,” she adds. “Plus, supporting a local business is a feel-good bonus.

“It would be a much harder process without Dial A Label.”
