A mailing label machine is available in many different varieties, but the only ones you should consider for the majority of business mailing scenarios are thermal label printers. In fact we’ll be more specific and recommend that if you have the budget for it, choose a Zebra label printer. It is a decision you will never come to regret.

Makers of the most advanced address label printer technology, the ambitious and innovative Zebra Technologies continue to provide consistent high quality machines with every new model they create.

The advantage of thermal printing is that it is quicker, cleaner, quieter, and more economical than other methods such as inkjet printing or laser printing. The advantage of Zebra thermal printers is they do all this even better than the average label printer can.

Dial-A-Label has the biggest range of Zebra printers and accessories in Australia, so you can confidently buy in the knowledge that you’re getting the best there is at a price you can afford.

Choosing the right address label machine

We’re always happy to advise our customers directly when they contact us for help, but we’ll also provide some information here on our website to help make it easier to select the right printer to meet your specific needs. Here are some things you’ll need to consider:

  • Resolution. The resolution of a printer is measured in “dots per inch”, usually written as “dpi”, and always in lowercase. The higher the dpi value of a printer is rated at, the more sharp the results can be expected to be. For text and barcode printing, you only need a resolution between 200 and 600 dpi to get fantastic results, so there is no need to spend a fortune on a higher resolution printer.
  • Speed. The speed of a label printer can be measured in labels per hour, or even labels per minute (to convert between them, you simply multiply or divide by 60).
  • Noise level. Measured in decibels (dB), the noise level can also be an important consideration. Thermal printers are generally the quietest printers around.
  • Connectivity. It’s best to choose a printer with as many connectivity options as possible, because you never know when you might upgrade or downgrade your other hardware.
  • Operating system compatibility. Most printers are compatible with Microsoft Windows, and quite a lot also work with Mac OSX. Many printers will also work with Linux, Unix, BSD, and other operating systems, but may require downloading CUPS drivers before they will work. Some printers require downloading CUPS drivers to work with OSX, too. Most recently printers have come onto the market that also support Android and iOS. It’s best to choose a printer with the widest range of compatibilities because you never know when your operating environment might change.
